Donovan State Prison Facility Tour

On Jan. 24th, 14 of the most notorious and ornery Honoraries were sent to prison.  Fortunately, not even the long term inmates wanted us there too long, so we were incarcerated for only two hours.  We wish we could have stayed longer, as we were blessed with perfect weather and an equally perfect tour.  The Transportation Deputies were entertaining and got us to the prison and back right on time.  Lieutenant Kim Siebel of the California Dept. of Corrections graciously led our group through the law library, bakery, kitchen, grounds, medical center, and one of the cell blocks.  One of our group members wanted to see one of the 2 man cells up close, so the corrections officers actually had one of the inmates removed from his cell so that we could enter and inspect it.  There was lots to see in the prison and I will write in more detail about the tour in a future edition of the 10-5.
As you may know, no tour can be complete without a fine lunch and it was provided by Louise Mathews  who oversees the entire food production facility at the East Mesa Detention Facility.  A fine Bar-B-Que luch was prepared and waiting for us.  A short tour of the now completed Otay Firearms Training Center was squeezed in afterwards and finally, it was time to go back.
I want to thank everyone who made the trip possible and the 13 other members who took the time to join me.
If you missed this tour, don't worry, there's more from where this came from and we will have some other fun and educational tours in the future.  Check here and in the 10-5 for future plans.
